ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY In pursuit of its mission to provide a quality service to the Health Sector, SHJ Hospital Pipelines Ltd aims to advocate technologies which are basically friendly to the environment. However, we recognise that in our day-to-day operations we inevitably impact on the environment in a number of ways and we wish to minimise the potentially harmful effects of such activity wherever and whenever possible. As part of our continuing drive for quality in all things we do, our efforts towards sustainable environmental improvement can be measured and monitored on a regular basis. In this way we aim to protect the health and safety of patients, customers and staff whilst contributing to the future well being of the environment. SHJ is committed to minimising the impact of its operations on the environment by means of a programme of continuous improvement. In particular, we will: 1. Meet and, where appropriate, exceed the requirements of all relevant legislation. Where no legislation exists we will set our own exacting standards. 2. Look to reduce consumption of materials in all operations, reuse rather than dispose of (wherever possible) and promote recycling and the use of recycled materials. 3. Manage energy wisely in all operations. 4. Reduce, wherever practicable, the level of harmful emissions. 5. Work with contractors to minimise the impact of their operations on the environment. 6. Site plant so that we minimise visual, noise and other impacts on the local environment. 7. Support the promotion of environmental protection by relevant external groups and organisations. 8. Include environmental issues in inductions and other appropriate discussion forums and encourage all staff to implement sound environmental practices. 9. Maintain an open information policy towards all parties affected, interested and involved in our activities and to issues which concern the environment, providing any relevant information to ensure effective relations with the community. 10. Closely monitor contractor’s compliance with their own environmental policy where it exists or with best industry standards |
